How Can I Improve My Employees Performance?

I run a successful mid-sized business with a really fantastic staff. In fact I attribute the positive customer surveys to my employee’s great attitudes. I think the members of my staff maintain their disposition because they have a great time at work. It is a close knit staff of people and many of them consider each other to be friends more than co-workers.
However, when I review my reports I can’t help feeling that their performance could be pushed to the next level if I had the right motivation but I don’t know what that incentive is. So it seemed like the most logical approach would be to ask my employees through a professionally managed employee satisfaction survey. The employee surveys showed that even though they enjoy their jobs they would be better motivated by a longer lunch. At this time we only give 30 minutes for lunch and I did not realize that it was not enough time for my employees to enjoy a stress free lunch break without worrying about returning on time.
I have since implemented a schedule that will accommodate a longer lunch as long as production stays within a certain margin. My employees have been very responsive and I am really glad we conducted the survey.
