How Old is Still Too Young For Disney World?

I’ve been to both Disneyland and Disney World, and I’m attempting to convince my husband that a toddler is just too young for Disneyland, let alone Disney World. It was one thing when I lived in California and you got special resident discounts, or even got in for free if you knew someone with passes. Now it’s $69 a ticket for Disneyland! I just don’t want to waste that money when the three year-old can only ride a few rides and then get tired and need a nap.
And Disney World is an even tougher nut to crack. Things are way more spread out. If you get a park-hopper pass, you feel guilty if you don’t visit every single park, but what would a three year-old want with that MGM park? Or even Epcot. And the thrill rides are out-if you travel all that way, get one of those nice Orlando Florida villas, spend all that money and then can’t go on anything good for a grown-up, what’s the point?
So I’m wondering what age is a really good age to take your kid to Disney for the first time.
Maybe six? A little younger if you were out there visiting relatives anyway? I personally think waiting until eight years old would be outstanding but a little unrealistic. Anyone have an opinion before I book those lovely villas in Florida?

Well, I’m obviously a bit late for giving you an opinion on a three year old, but I know many people who have had successes with 4-6 year olds. Of course, what you consider a success will vary from person to person. My husband took his ex wife and her 4 year old daughter (obviously before we met) and they were able to do almost everything they wanted- however, she was too short for Splash Mountain, and he wasn’t much of a coaster person, so Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain were it.
The thing is, you could literally spend all day in Fantasyland and Adventureland and have a blast, and I can’t think of any rides in either that wouldn’t be suitable for a 4 year old. Epcot has “kidcot” which has activities at all the different country pavilions, and Animal Kingdom does similar. You may be right about Disney’s Hollywood Studios (formerly MGM), though. A four year old might like Toy Story Mania and Star Tours and such, but even at three, they might be a bit much.
