Online shopping cart software is a booming business, and there are a bewildering array of choices for the storeowner who wants to go online. Each version of this ecommerce shopping cart software has a different list of features.
There are a few features that are almost indispensable. It would be a shame to get a website setup that didn’t include something important, making the whole thing grossly inconvenient. One set of features that is easy to overlook, but unfortunate to neglect involves the shipping and handling aspect of the website. A shopping website will need to calculate the cost of shipping and handling and communicate it to the customers before they confirm their purchase.
It’s also important to keep track of these costs on the business side of the transaction. Different types of stores calculate shipping and handling in different ways, and it’s important to get software that’s flexible enough to handle a variety of order types. Shipping can be calculated as a function of the total cost of the order, by the weight of the items ordered, by shipping address zip code, or other ways. An e commerce software program will need to be able to smoothly handle different methods of shipping calculation, especially since stores often change these as part of a promotion.
